Adversity comes in many ways for athletic teams, and for the Gardner-Webb Lady Bulldog basketball team, obstacles are already developing for the players and the season is still months away. Head coach Barry Street was released from his duties recently, and the team is in the process of conditioning with out a named head coach.

The process for replacing a coach has been a familiar one for the Lady Bulldogs in the past few years. For the seniors on the team the new coach will be the third in their athletic tenure at GWU.

"From my own experience it's been really hard to adapt to three different coaches," said senior Casey Collins. "All we can do is pray to God that we get a coach who helps us enjoy the games."

As for the new coach, the complete terms of the replacement procedure cannot be released; however, the Athletic department is considering their options as quickly as possible.

"We've interviewed two persons for the position and we hope we will make a decision in a timely fashion," said Chuck Burch, vice president for athletics. "If we can get it done in two or three weeks, I feel that that's reasonable."

With official practice beginning Oct. 15, the players realize that they have to condition and compete despite the difficult situation they face. "No matter who the coach is we're going to play hard regardless. (As for the fans)I hope they keep continuing to support us. We want to make this a very exciting year for GWU," said Collins.

Assistant coach Serena King is in charge of conditioning for the team until a head coach is named.
