During orientation, freshmen and transfers were introduced to an overview of school policies and regulations already known to most returning students. Among these regulations was the visitation policy.

According the Gardner-Webb University student handbook, the visitation hours for the residence halls and apartments are 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. seven days a week.

During a meeting in the apartment clubhouse on Aug. 30, students voiced their opinions about the visitation policy. Many students said that visitation hours should change. Others disagreed.

"I came from a school that had absolutely no co-ed visitation. Now that I'm here I think that the hours are fair," said transfer-student Katishia Mills. "What I really believe should change is that we, as students and adults, should have the right to shut our doors when a person of the opposite sex comes over."

Other students share similar feelings as Mills.

"I personally think that 2 a.m. is too late - I think that the hours should be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.," freshman Amanda Overcash said. "A lot of girls take showers at night, and I would be embarrassed if I came out from the bathroom, and a guy was there and saw me in my towel."

Residence life and the Residence Hall Association are taking time to hear students' opinions, but a final decision about the visitation policy has not been made.
