On Feb. 14, better known as Valentine's Day, all Gardner-Webb University women are invited to the Ladies' Valentine's Day banquet from 6 p.m. to 7 in the apartment clubhouse.
Organized by Pamela Darnell, senior, the banquet will feature a variety of desserts-made by GWU staff members and volunteers in the community. Music will be provided at different times throughout the night by Amanda Chapman, Kara Jones, both juniors, and Sherika Estridge, senior.
Dressing up is not a requirement. Denise A. McGill, communications ??, will be the guest speaker.
"The purpose of the Valentine's Day banquet is to communicate to girls that they are beautiful and valuable and loved," Darnell said.
It's not a "guy-bashing night," as many will be prone to think, Darnell said.
"All girls know that Valentine's Day is often a day that you feel not special and not loved and that you have nothing to celebrate," she said. "But we have so much to celebrate in God, and having an evening to remember that is important-that He loves us more than any human could."
Darnell asked McGill to share at the banquet after taking a class with her last semester.
"She strikes me as someone who is very confident in herself and secure in her relationship with God," Darnell said.
