Of the 47 goals scored by the Lady Bulldogs soccer team during the 2004 season, only 10 of them did not involve the team's Offensive Player of the Year Leeanna Woodworth. Her 22 goals and 15 assists were individual bests, team highs and school records.
The junior front-runner for GWU racked up many awards for her record season. Most recently, Woodworth was named to the North Carolina All-State team by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association. Leading the Atlantic Sun conference in every offensive category earned her the 2004 Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year award. Woodworth didn't make the season a success on her own however. Fellow Bulldog, Liz Kier scored a career-high 14 goals of her own.
"This year everything really came together," said Woodworth. "We all worked really well together."
With a nation-leading 2.95 points per game, Woodworth scored a school record 59 points this season. She now owns the career assists record for GWU with 28, is tied for second in career points with 106 and her 39 collegiate goals are good for third all-time at GWU.
"I try not to think about breaking the records," said Woodworth. "I just want to help the team."
The Virginia Beach, Va. native earned a spot on Soccer Buzz's National Elite Team of the Week on Sept. 8 by notching 20 points in a single week. Woodworth also was a three time winner of the A-Sun player of the week award before being named to the All-Atlantic Sun First Team and to the A-Sun Championship All-Tournament Team.
Woodworth juggles her time on the field with excellence in the classroom as she was named to the Academic All-District III First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America after the season.
