The Bohemian style, after a rather extended period of 'in', is now 'out'. How could something possibly replace the big jewelry, fun pocketbooks, and sparkly shoes of Bohemian? The funky, yet somewhat vintage styles of Russian Flare have. After all, it only seems fair that, as they have dominated the Runway for several years, the Russians take center stage.
Russian Flare's colorfully embroidered bags, decorated necklines, and big fur hats have added freshness to the wardrobe. Furthermore, this style is bringing back some old styles, albeit in a new and refreshing way. These items include balloon sleeves, embroidered vests, sash belts, charm belts, and long, ruffled skirts.
Naturally, these items would not be as invigorating without colorful prints. Bright yellows, reds, and blues, all with metallic touches, capture the eye and swirl us away from the more earthy and bronze tones of Bohemian. Just as Bohemian had its few colorful tones, Russian Flare brings in a horse of a different color in subdued tones. Crocodile greens, marshy browns, nearly nudes and, of course, the elegant blacks are all great colors featured in this style. Gold appears on many occasions in highlights, undertones, and accessories, adding an appealing glow.
Unfortunately, we do not all live on an Anna Sui or Emilio Pucci budget. Fortunately, being 'in style' does not have to break the bank. If you want to splurge, the best piece I found (for under a thousand dollars) was the Sequined Wrap Skirt by Nimli for $88.00 at amazon.com. If you're trying to save some cash, the Rayon Georgette Empire Embellished Shirt priced at $49.00 or the Voile Embellished Skirt priced at $59.00 can be found at rampage.com and fit the 'style code' perfectly. Looking for something slightly cheaper? The Peasant Top with Scarf by Nimli for $32.00 at amazon.com may fit your budget. Or maybe the Ruffled Godet Skirt, also by Nimli at amazon.com, for $34.00. But if you're really looking to save, Ebay has an amazing selection of style savvy clothing to choose from.
