Dear Sarajane,
I'm going on a mission trip with someone very close to me. We are good friends, but I would like to be more than just friends. I'm afraid that telling her would create tension on the trip. What should I do?

I think that this is a very touchy subject. You have to be careful especially when dealing with close friends, what should always come first is the friendship. I would suggest waiting until the mission trip is over to mention anything. First of all, if she doesn't feel the same way it would most likely create tension on the trip. But also if she does feel the same way, a new relationship could get in the way of ministry that you could do on the mission field. More importantly, on a mission trip you are able to get to know people on a more intimate friendship level. For all you know when you go on the trip you may find out things that you don't like about her, or maybe it will give you both time to figure out what you like more about each other. Whichever way it works out though, remember that relationships aren't awkward unless you make them awkward.
